Apologies for the the late hour…many crises to chase around today.  Congrats to the Tigers, who are making a go of it in the AL central.  The AL west is ever the dogfight; this week is no exception.  BIG NEWS: the Dodgers crept into a tie in the NL West… when the dust settled this week, 3 races were .5 games or closer….Colorado continues to amaze me in the WOR standings; Tom Duckett has really done an excellent job…just a couple weeks left!

COMMENTS: Never say die: the best 2 of the 3 records in the NL went to the Rockies and the Cubs…Dead heat: The four of the six divisions have races 3.5 games or tighter….the AL West is locked in a dead tie…Boston still has the best record in the AL, but the Yankees and Orioles have their footsteps pounding in the background…kudos to the Twins, who are +5 WOR and have quietly slipped into 3rd in their division…the BIG ASFBL news is the Reds, who have charged into first in their division and have the best record in the league…go Ralph…The Dodgers turned the NL west into a race in one week, picking up 4 games in the west…DJ LaMathieu hit .750 last week; that’s not a typo…Aramis Ramirez had an ungodly 16 RBI…Felix Hernandez threw 11 shutout innings…

NO HITTER!  Jensen Lewis of ARI threw a no-hitter against LAD on 9/2/2012…boy, can Jim Gerety make a AAA callup….it was crazy enough that I checked the numbers, but including the no-hitter, his fantasy ERA is 4.35, and his real ERA (estimated) is 4.30….WHIP is witihin .07…On the other hand, maybe it’s bad luck…The 2012 no-hitter pitchers seem cursed….Humber got rocked in relief yesteraday…Santana is on the DL…Wvaver is going to miss his next start….Millwood couldn’t finish his own no-hitter….Matt Cain gave up 5 runs in his last start…here’s hoping Lewis stays safer…

COMMENTARY:  The hottest race is easily the AL west, where the Angels reclaimed first after the Rangers gained it last week…Most impressive was their 3-game sweep of the Bosox….The Rangers can thank Seattle, who salvaged the last game of the series to keep the Halos from running the table….Boston’s 0-7 performance left the best record in the league to the Reds, who picked up 2 and a half games on the Cards….The Angels owe the Rays big-time; playing the role of spoiler, the Rays took 2 of 3 from Texas on route to a 6-1 week…Houston has moved to within a game of the Bosox in the WOR standings….Oakland went 6-1, which got them back in the hunt for the last wild card spot….Congrats to the Rockies, who had the best NL record, and helped the Giants by sweeping the Dodgers….Milwuakee went 6-1, is sitting +6 WOR, and can challenge for the last NL wildcard….28 lineups submitted in the first weekend of September!  Incredible!
